Innovation and Entrepreneurship Workshop at Wits
The Wits Innovation Center (WIC) conducted a Innovation
& Entrepreneurship Workshop during July 11-15, directed by Prof Surya
Raghu, Ph.D. with Letlotlo Phohole and Barry Dwol​atzky on the organising
committee. Dean Nithaya Chetty inaugurated the workshop which was followed by
an inspirational talk by Prof. Bavesh Kana on the need for innovation to solve
problems of societal and national interest and his own experience in this
journey. The broad aim of the workshop was to empower our participants in their
Innovation and Entrepreneurship journey at Wits. The 35 participants included
academic staff, post doctoral fellows, PhD candidates, post-graduate and
under-graduate students from Wits Faculty of Health Sciences, Wits Faculty of
Commerce, Law and Management, Wits Faculty of Engineering and the Built
Environment , and Wits Faculty of Science. The participants heard presentations
and connected with representatives of the entire ecosystem in taking an idea
from research stages all the way to market. The participants also formed teams
based on their own innovative ideas and presented their final pitch on July 14th
to a panel of judges.
